Subject: Invitation to the Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting on the ‘EU reform
with a view to future enlargement’ on Tuesday 24 June 2025.
Dear Chair,
I have the pleasure of inviting you to an Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting (ICM) on the
‘EU
reform with a view to future enlargement’,
that the Committee on Constitutional Affairs
(AFCO) will hold on Tuesday 24 June 2025.
The main aim of this ICM is to exchange views with national Parliaments from the EU Member
States and the Candidate Countries on the internal groundwork and reforms necessary to make
the EU fit for future enlargement, in parallel to the reform efforts by aspiring Members.
AFCO is currently working on an important own initiative report on the
‘Institutional
consequences of the EU enlargement negotiations’,
under the rapporteurship of Mr Sandro
Gozi (Renew), the aim of which is to convey Parliament’s key political messages on the
possible ways to improve the functioning of the enlarged EU. The presentation of this draft
report will take place during the ICM on 24 June 2025 and will be followed by an in-depth
exchange of views with national Parliaments, which will provide further food for thought for
the next phases of the work on this report.
I would thus, like to cordially invite you, together with up to four Members of the relevant
committee(s) from each national Parliament (two from each Chamber in the case of bi-cameral
Parliaments) to attend this meeting. The meeting - to be held in person - will be followed by a
reception, which will provide an opportunity to continue exchanges in an informal atmosphere.
Should you be unable to attend, I would welcome any written contribution, which would be
distributed to our Members and other participants.
