Urgent Human Rights Concern: Forced Separation of Keira Kronvold from Her Newborn
Child
To whom it may concern,
I am writing as a deeply concerned mother and citizen in response to the heartbreaking and unjust
case of Keira Kronvold, a Greenlandic woman whose baby was forcibly removed from her arms just
two hours after giving birth, based on the flawed and now widely discredited Danish parental
competency test.
More than 50,000 people have signed petitions in protest, demanding justice for Keira and an end
to this discriminatory practice. As a fellow mother, I cannot begin to express the grief and rage this
causes. Not only for her as a person, but for what it represents: a systemic and ongoing pattern of
colonial control over Indigenous women and families.
The parental competency test in question has repeatedly failed to account for cultural and
linguistic differences. Greenlanders are often subjected to evaluations that are in Danish.
A language many do not fully speak, with no proper translation or cultural sensitivity. These
assessments are not only invalid in such contexts, they are dangerously misleading.
What is even more alarming is the assumption that the state has the right to remove a newborn
child without evidence of abuse or endangerment, based only on a theoretical test result. This is
not protection, it is trauma. Trauma inflicted upon a new mother and her child, creating a wound
that no government apology can undo.
Even though I understand that these tests are now being phased out, Keira Kronvold has already
lost her child and her legal case. This is not justice. This is a continuation of Denmark's colonial
past, now carried out under the cover of “social services.”
I demand:
1. An immediate review of Keira Kronvold’s case with full transparency, cultural sensitivity,
and independent oversight.
2. The implementation of community-based and culturally competent support for Greenlandic
families.
3. Accountability for the harm already caused, including an apology and reparative action.

You may consider this only one voice, but I stand in solidarity with tens of thousands. We are
watching, and we will not be silent. This must not happen again! Not in a nation that claims to
uphold human rights.
Sincerely,
