To the members of the NATO PA Assembly
Dear Colleagues!
We are writing this letter to draw your attention to yet another tragedy caused by the
Armenian Government. On June 4
th
, two journalists and a local official lost their lives
and four others were injured in a mine blast in the region liberated from Armenian
occupation. These journalists had been stationed in Kalbajar region to cover destruction
caused by Armenians during the 30 years of occupation.
Azerbaijan has already defused over 35 000 mines in the area covering 100 million
square meters since the signing of the Trilateral statement of November 10
th
. These
mines have been implanted targeting civilian infrastructure, lampposts, canals, road
junctions, courtyard entrances, cemeteries, riverbanks, and rural and urban paths.
Over 120 Azerbaijanis lost their lives and injured due to the mine explosions in the
liberated territories since the end of the war. Despite numerous appeals by Azerbaijan
as well as several international organisations and governments, Armenia still refuses to
provide maps of hundreds of thousands of mines planted in the Azerbaijani territories
during the three decades of occupation.
NPA, Alm.del - 2020-21 - Bilag 21: By Azerbaijani Parliament
The incident that has occurred today proves once again that Armenia’s refusal
to provide
mine maps amounts to another war crime committed by Armenia against Azerbaijani
servicemen and civilians. Every mine explosion is an attack against peace and against
the universal values and principles that we all stand for.
We are calling upon the international community to put more pressure on Armenia to
fulfil its obligations in line with the international law and provide maps of minefields in
the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
