Mr. Stavros Dimas Commissioner for the Environment European Commission Rue de la Loi 200 B-1040 Brussels Belgium Mr. Markos Kyprianou Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection European Commission DG Health and Consumer Protection Rue de la Loi 200 B-1049 Brussels Belgium COURTESY TRANSLATION MINISTEREN J.nr. 2001-4116-0006 Den Dear Mr. Stavros Dimas and Mr. Markos Kyprianou, The Commission has on 29 March 2005 forwarded information to the EU Member States from the biotech firm Syngenta, regarding possible unauthor- ised import of genetically modified Bt10-maize to Europe as contaminated ge- netically modified Bt11-maize.   Denmark deplores the matter and regards it with great concern. We are aware of the fact that the likely export of Bt10-maize is accidental, however, we find it of key importance that similar cases of import of unauthor- ised GMOs do not re-occur. Against this background, Denmark would greatly appreciate a comprehensive report from the Commission on the import of un- authorised Bt10-maize as well as an account of how the Commission intends to avoid future imports of unauthorised GMOs. Kindly be informed that I have sent a copy of this letter to my EU colleagues.
