Hello,
My name is Carmen Reilly, and I am a Canadian citizen. I was reading the
news of your
proposed changes to immigration law,
and was completely shocked that your country
would even be considering these changes.
On a recent visit to your country, I was routinely impressed by the courtesy and warmth
shown to me by every single person I met. I did not speak much of the language, and got
lost, or needed help more than once. Every single time, a complete stranger (whose
language I didn't speak) came to my aid; it was truly impressive.
The changes you are proposing run contrary to every impression this trip left me with. It is
baffling to me that you would be so cruel as to inflict additional punishments on those
already fleeing war, torture, and starvation.
As proclaimed on
your own website
"
Denmark is the country in the world with the highest GDP per
capita that does not rely on a significant amount of its wealth from either natural resources or from the
finance and gambling sectors." That you would then deny basic human rights to those coming to you in their
darkest hour is something for which every person should feel deeply ashamed.
I hope you can find the basic human decency within yourselves to extend your compassion to those who
need it most.
Yours Sincerely,
Carmen Reilly
