Larger groups of between 15-30 people may book a conducted tour in advance. The arrangement also includes primary school pupils from the eighth, ninth and tenth forms. Conducted tours are free and very popular so it is necessary to book from four to five months in advance. A group conducted tour can be combined with a visit to the Public Galleries on those days when the Folketing is sitting. A conducted tour lasts for about 45 minutes. The Folketing is an open building and it is possible to visit it in a group or individually all year round. At certain times a conducted tour can be combined with a visit to the Folketing’s restaurant, the Snapsting.
Larger groups of between 15-30 people can also go on a conducted tour of the works of art in the Folketing. These conducted tours can be arranged during the evening from 20.00 on days when the Folketing is sitting and from 18.00 on days when the Folketing is not sitting. These tours can also be arranged at weekends. A conducted tour of works of art lasts for about an hour and a half. These tours are free.
If you are not a member of a larger group and would like to visit the Folketing on your own, together with a few friends or your family this can be arranged on Sundays or during public holidays and school holidays. On these days you may collect tickets at the reception desk next to the main entrance from 09.00 for conducted tours on the same day. Conducted tours are free. They take place at 10.00, 11.00, 13.00, 14.00 and 15.00. Conducted tours on Sundays at 14.00 are in English. Folketing officers act as guides and, among other things, you can see the Chamber of the Folketing and the Constitutional Act from 1849.
If you want to experience a debate in the Chamber of the Folketing you can inquire at the reception desk next to the main entrance and may be admitted if there are vacant seats. You can see when the Folketing is sitting and which items are on the agenda at www. folketing.dk. There are usually sittings from the first Tuesday in October up to Constitution Day on 5 June on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, but not during holidays.
Some groups contact a Member of the Folketing directly to make an appointment for a visit. In these cases the Member will show the group around Christiansborg. These groups often come from the nomination district the Member in question was elected in, or are sometimes classes from an upper secondary school whose students want to talk to a spokesperson for an area the class in particularly interested in. In these cases visits are agreed between the group and the Member in question or with a Member’s secretary.
